Cleaning and caring for artificial leather and plastics in cars

Artificial leather and plastics are robust and easy to care for. However, they also age and can often no longer be repaired satisfactorily. This article shows what you need for cleaning, care and minor repairs.

Cleaning

Artificial leather and plastics in vehicles can be easily cleaned with Artificial Leather Cleaner. For heavier soiling, allow it to soak in briefly and use the Leather Cleaning Brush to help.

Care

For care, treat surfaces regularly with Colourlock Artificial Leather Protector. It leaves an invisible protective film that prevents soiling from penetrating, preserves the character of the surface and does not change its gloss level. Apply Artificial Leather Protector sparingly to a lint-free cloth and work it in evenly.

What happens as they age?

Older artificial leather and plastics lose their plasticisers over time. They become drier, more brittle and sometimes crack. This process can be slowed down, but not stopped. Regular cleaning and care noticeably delay it and in particular prevent the surface from fading.

Repairing colour changes and minor damage

Faded areas or minor colour abrasion can be recoloured with Colourlock Leather Fresh on manageable areas. Because artificial leather has no natural breathability, the tint is not absorbed; it must be dabbed on several times and dried with a hair dryer until the desired coverage is achieved. First, be sure to degrease with Leather Cleaning Spirit and smooth unevenness with the Colourlock Sanding Pad.

Minor tears and breaks can be closed with Colourlock Fluid Leather. Then match the gloss level and colour with Leather Fresh.

For large-area new colouring and recolouring, it is best to contact our workshop. We will be happy to provide you with a free quotation.

When is reupholstering more sensible?

For entry bolsters breaking apart over large areas or severely damaged main contact areas, reupholstering is the cleaner solution. We offer reupholstering in our workshop. Here too, we will be happy to provide you with a free quotation.

If you do not know the name of your interior colour, it is best to contact an authorised dealer of your car brand. Using the chassis number, it is possible to give you the name of your leather (not the code). A mixing fee of CHF 25.– applies to all special colours (all colours except F001–F046 are special colours).
