How to clean and care for perforated car leather
Perforated seats feel more comfortable, but require slightly more care than normal leather. Those who follow a few simple basic rules will enjoy them for a long time.
What is perforation and why is it used?
Perforated car leather has a regular pattern of holes. It is found almost exclusively in vehicles. Perforation is virtually never found in furniture.
The purpose: despite the pigmented colour layer, which normally makes leather less breathable, perforation keeps the leather more breathable. Moisture is wicked away more effectively and the seat feels more comfortable. Perforation also supports the effect of seat heating and cooling.
The disadvantage: the areas around the openings tend to become soiled and are more sensitive to moisture.
Cleaning
Depending on the intensity of use, we recommend cleaning the leather seats every 3 to 6 months.
Apply a little Colourlock Leather Cleaner mild to a cloth; never spray it directly onto the leather. Clean the leather with it and remove cleaner residues with a slightly damp cloth. If it is very wet, dry it immediately with a hairdryer and do not leave the vehicle closed until the leather is completely dry.
For heavier soiling, Colorlock Leather Cleaner strong can be used.
Care
After every cleaning, or every 3 to 6 months depending on use.
Apply only a small amount of Colorlock Leather Care to a cloth and use it to care for the leather. With Colorlock Elephant Leather Preserver, first rub the grease into a soft cloth and only then apply it to the leather.
Important:
Apply all products sparingly around the perforation. Too much product fills the holes, makes the edges swell or seeps through from behind the padding. This is not only unsightly, but also difficult to remedy.

When moisture has already penetrated
Once moisture has penetrated and left stains around the perforation edges, it can hardly be completely remedied from the outside. In such cases, we recommend a workshop enquiry; we will be happy to take a look.
