Description

The Complete Leather Repair Set covers all essential steps of leather restoration. From cleaning and repair to colour refreshing and final care and protection. The set contains all necessary products for remedying damage such as scratches, cracks, scuffs, and fading. Targeted colour matching is carried out with Leather Fresh colourant, while the included leather care product, Leather Care, protects the surface from ageing and UV radiation. On older leather, the included leather grease also provides suppleness and shine. The scope of the set is designed to restore a complete vehicle interior or a furniture suite. To ensure the most exact colour match possible, the Complete Leather Repair Set is available in our 46 standard shades as well as a wide range of special colours.

The enclosed instructions guide you clearly and step by step through the entire repair process. The appropriate accessories for clean, professional application are already included.

Application

Reworded cleaning instructions with alternative wording

1. Cleaning

Before every repair, the leather must be carefully cleaned to achieve optimal results.

Set contents: Leather Cleaner mild, Leather Cleaner strong, Foamer Bottle, cleaning sponge, leather brush, cloth or sponge

Fill the empty Foamer Bottle with Leather Cleaner mild – use Leather Cleaner strong instead for heavily soiled leather

Apply the foam to the leather cleaning brush and clean the leather from seam to seam. Lightly moisten a white Viscose Cloth and carefully remove dirt and cleaner residues, then allow the leather to dry completely. The cleaning process can be repeated for stubborn dirt.

2. Roughening, sanding

Set contents: Sanding Pad

Rough areas, scratches, and broken edges must be sanded with the Sanding Pad before repair with Fluid Leather or colour refreshing with Leather Fresh.

3. Degreasing

Set contents: Degreaser

The surfaces must be thoroughly degreased with Degreaser so that Leather Fresh adheres well. This applies especially to surfaces treated with leather care products and skin-contact areas such as armrests, headrests, or steering wheels.

4. Backing and gluing cracks

Set contents: Leather Glue, mini brush

Apply a small amount of Leather Glue to the affected cracks. For difficult-to-reach spots or narrow areas, the enclosed brushes can be used for even distribution. For an optimal result, we recommend allowing the leather glue to dry slightly and bringing the cracks together edge to edge. When backing with our Backlining Cloth, press the glued surfaces together where possible to ensure optimal adhesion.

Cracks and holes that are already larger but still repairable must be stabilised with our Backlining Cloth. Cut the cloth to size with an appropriate overlap and mark the centre with a marker pen or small sticker. The marking makes it easy to see where the centre is, ensuring the overlap is even everywhere. Secure the centre with a needle and smooth the edges beneath the leather with a spatula. Then glue it in place.

5. Filling with Fluid Leather and smoothing with GLD-Solvent Pen

Set contents: Fluid Leather, GLD-Solvent Pen

Pull off the tube cap and evenly fill damaged areas with the Fluid Leather. Immediately smooth the area with the spatula and allow it to dry at room temperature – this takes an average of one to two hours. Repeat the application until the damaged area is completely filled and as level as possible.

If the repaired area still has unevenness after treatment or is not completely clean, the GLD pen can be used for subsequent smoothing. Open the cap of the GLD-Solvent Pen and press the felt tip several times so that the felt is saturated with GLD. If the felt becomes too wet, dab off the excess with a cloth. Then pass over the repaired area with little pressure to dissolve and smooth the surface. Always use the GLD-Solvent Pen sparingly and carefully to avoid blurring the repair area.

NOTE:

Allow the Fluid Leather to dry repeatedly in between. This enables the result to be refined step by step and reworked until the repair meets the desired requirements.

6. Refreshing with Leather Fresh colourant

Set contents: Leather Fresh, sponges

Now dab Leather Fresh on evenly in circular motions using the supplied sponges. If possible, work from seam to seam and dry in between with a hairdryer. In most cases, several passes are necessary to achieve the ideal result. Smooth out irregular applications in between with the Sanding Pad.

5. Care

After applying Leather Fresh colourant, care with Leather Care should only be carried out 24h later so that the colourant has sufficient time to dry. Rub a little Leather Care into a soft cloth and apply a thin, even layer from seam to seam. Allow to dry without polishing. One application is generally sufficient. Repeat the process only on extremely dry leather that is highly absorbent.

If the leather is under 3 years old, sealing with Leather Shield is recommended.

Apply Leather Shield to dry, clean leather.

Rub a little Leather Shield into a soft cloth and apply a thin layer from seam to seam. Allow to dry without polishing. The process can be repeated on more heavily stressed areas.
